The Restless formed in 1999 to bring the songs of Mick Young to life. They were Mick Young (vocal, guitar), Mick McCann (bass), and Ryan McCluskey (drums) - each excellent musicians in their own right.
Shortly after their very first gig (at the Punters Club), Mick McCann got slightly battered in a taxi accident and took some time off to heal. Melisa Collins joined on Violin to fill his spot. Then Macca came back better than ever, and together the four of them recorded a four track EP called “Fear of the Water” with Justin Skim at Cavalier Music. They liked playing as a quartet, so they stayed that way.
The Restless’ second EP “Clayfire, Burn Your Day” featured a horn trio and was released in 2001.
Then Macca moved to the UK to edit surf movies, and Mark Drysdale took over the bass duties.
During this time they continued to perform regularly in Melbourne, write and rehearse, and build a dedicated fan base. Culminating in their first full length album simply entitled “the Restless”.
“the Restless” was reviewed up and down the coast, and received national airplay. The band toured twice in 2005. The same year they enlisted the creative skills of Lee Gingold and Rick Merecki to devise and produce the film clip for “Pace.”
They played their little hearts out for nearly 7 years and sadly called it a day in May 2006. Their second album remains unfinished.
They wish to thank particularly their fans, friends and families, music venues, radio stations, and fellow bands for the wonderful support over these years. And a special thankyou to Cavalier Music: Jeff and Juk for their faith and time.
